Our district PTA (PTAC) is fortunate to have multiple family engagement groups in addition to PTA. These include Alameda MOSAIC, focused around supporting African-American/Black/Multiethnic students and their families, and ASPED, focused on supporting students who receive special education services and their families. The Alameda Mosaic Educational Advisory Committee is forming to build a community to support our African-American/Black/Multiethnic students and their families. It’s not easy being green, but we sure do need to try; the library is here to help! Alameda Free Library is pleased to introduce the Celebrate Earth Day Challenge, an online activity challenge on Beanstack. Elementary school students may join the challenge created just for them (K-5). There’s a 6th grade to adult challenge, too! Earhart Ocean Guardians! Hear ye, hear ye! The time has come for students and families to don rain boots, winter jackets, and arm themselves with gloves and robohands (both of which we will provide) and clean our wonderful estuary that lies at our doorstep. Estuaries host a diversity of sea, aviary, and terrestrial life, and plastic pollution that ends up in the waters of the bay or the banks eventually weather into smaller particles. PTA Executive Board elections will take place at the May 18th PTA meeting (https://fb.me/e/1eD57x8y8), but first we need your help. If you are looking for a way to become more involved at our school, the PTA Executive Board is a great option. Board positions include: President Executive Vice President Recording Secretary Treasurer Financial Secretary Historian VP of Membership A full description of each position can be found here. We had 68 students from all different grades enter our contest and it was so hard to choose! If you are not familiar with Bonnie Wehmann and Easy Street Cycling, this is one of the best things going for kids in Alameda!  She has been teaching bike camps in town for years.  With the different school schedule this year, she has added some Wednesday classes to get kids out of the house and moving, along with a spring break and Memorial Day weekend camp.  She also has her summer camps posted now.  She takes small groups, so they book up quickly.  Because of her small numbers and the fact that it is all outside, she actually was able

As we get back into the swing of things, please make sure to continue to drive safely around all school zones! It is imperative that our children feel safe coming to school, and that includes walking or biking. Please note that the city of Alameda will be helping: During the first week of school, as they have in past years, Police will do targeted enforcement for the most dangerous behaviors around schools. Parking enforcement will be out to ticket people parking in the white zones.
