Superintendent Scuderi sent out the following message on Wednesday of this week: “As a friendly reminder: all elementary students who plan to attend our in-person sessions beginning on March 15 will need a COVID-19 test prior to returning to campus. As of yesterday [3/2/21], the county case rate is 6.3 cases per 100,000 residents. According to guidance from the California Department of Public Health, this rate requires us to test our students every two weeks. That means that in order to start in-person instruction on March 15, your student will need to get a test this weekend or next week.” **Please

This Is Your Time: A Conversation With Ruby Bridges and the Alameda Black Achievers Alliance  Celebrating Black History Month On Saturday, February 27th, Ruby Bridges will join the Alameda Black Achievers Alliance for an interview celebrating Black History Month, as well as discussing her book, This is Your Time. The book is written as a letter from herself to the reader, a recounting of Ruby’s experience as a child who was chosen to be one of the first black students to integrate into an all-white public school system and an appeal to generations to come to affect change. As our Flex families look forward to campus re-opening on March 15th, I urge ALL families to model kindness in our community (you can read the AUSD press release about re-opening by clicking here). Some families are very excited to return to campus, but many are fearful, and a few have decided that in the end, they will not be sending their children back to campus this school year – all of this is okay! We also need to be mindful of our Remote families who chose to stay home all year out of necessity and may have renewed feelings

Earhart will be participating in the Virtual Golden Sneaker Contest March 1-5. The Virtual Golden Sneaker Contest is a week-long classroom challenge that encourages students, parents, teachers and administrators to take healthy modes of active and shared transportation options, such as: ‍Walking ‍Biking ‍Rolling in a wheelchair or mobility device 🛹Skateboarding, scootering, or any other human-powered wheels Riding public transit like AC Transit or BART 🧘‍♀️Indoor physical activity Each day a physical activity is completed, the students will submit this google form: https://forms.gle/HtoY3WuLPqoVt3fQ8. Our friends over at Bay Farm Elementary have an amazing program that is open to all AUSD students. Zentangle® is a relaxing way to draw beautiful images with patterns. The materials are most appropriate for self-directed 2nd – 5th grade students. Check out more information here. As many of you know, Alameda Firefighters collect donated toys each year to give to families in need. Usually bins are placed at each school site and around town to collect toys. This year, however, things are a bit different due to Covid. Firefighters are asking for money donations so they can purchase gift cards for families in need. They hope to raise $50K so they can provide gifts to all families who have signed up to receive gifts.
